Program Summary
The Toronto Lachrimae Festival marks 400 years since Dowland's death with the Diapente Renaissance Vocal Quintet and gambist Felix Deak. Dowland's songs of deliberate melancholy were the popular music of their moment, and hearing them sung in five parts restores the counterpoint the lute versions compress.
