University of Toronto New Music Festival
About this organization
The University of Toronto New Music Festival is an annual contemporary-music festival presented by the University of Toronto Faculty of Music. It is led by artistic director Norbert Palej, a composer on the Faculty's composition division. Each edition is built around a Roger D. Moore Distinguished Visitor in Composition, a roster stretching back to 2003 that includes Krzysztof Penderecki, Steve Reich, Chen Yi, Salvatore Sciarrino, Nicole Lizee, Ana Sokolovic and Vivian Fung. Programmes pair Faculty of Music student ensembles with visiting professional groups such as the JACK Quartet, Nexus, the Penderecki String Quartet and the Gryphon Trio, and concerts take place in the Faculty's Edward Johnson Building venues.
