Cascadia Strings at The CODA: Blind Date

Come celebrate 10 years of Cascadia Strings, through a program of many surprises, including Brahms' Sextet No. 2, & 12th & Fraser by Canadian, award-winning composer, Aliayta Foon-Dancoes.

Formed in 2015, Award-winning Cascadia Strings is an initiative to bring diverse and engaging chamber music repertoire to all audiences, fusing together iconic original works with well-crafted arrangements of popular music of the last century, all in the vision to bring live, meaningful musical experiences to new venues and music-lovers in Victoria and beyond. As a passionate concert curator, Kathryn Wiebe,founder, programs shows with thoughtful content, cross-genre repertoire, with a result that is touching and powerful to audience members, across all demographics. This concert features Victoria and Vancouver-based Musicians, Tyson Doknjas & Kathryn Wiebe (Violins), Jessica Pickersgill & Natasha Galitzine (Viola), Yu Yu Liu & Erin Tinney (Cello). These are graduates of conservatories and schools, such as University of Victoria, The Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory of Music, University of Michigan, and University of Toronto, to name a few. You may recognize this talented bunch from orchestras and ensembles such as Victoria Symphony, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Opera, Victoria Baroque Players, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Candlelight Concerts, and more. Our program will feature the charming and alluring first movement of Johannes Brahms’ String Sextet No. 2 in G Major, as well as “12th & Fraser” by Canadian composer, Aliayta Foon-Dancoes; a work that evokes love and appreciation for Vancouver, where her origins lie. The remaining works will be a surprise, hence the title of the program. Come on out for a celebratory, unexpected, musical evening to close off an incredible 2025-2026 season at the Coda!
