The Victoria Chamber Orchestra is a volunteer string orchestra that grew out of a group of string players who banded together in 1993 and became a full orchestra in 1995, when Yariv Aloni took up the baton. Aloni remains Music Director, and 2026-27 is the orchestra's 32nd season. Its players come from all walks of life, and several are music teachers. The orchestra has two mandates: promoting string orchestra music in the community and supporting young regional string players, most visibly through its annual Louis Sherman Concerto Competition for students aged 18 and under. It rehearses and performs at the United Commons, the historic former First Metropolitan United Church at Balmoral and Quadra.
