Program Summary
The Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra opens its 2026/27 season at the Orpheum with Bernstein and Gershwin. Bernstein's Candide Overture leads into An American in Paris, and pianist Ian Parker joins for Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F, the composer's most sustained attempt to write jazz into concerto form. The programme surveys how American vernacular music entered the concert hall in the 1920s and 30s.
