Program

Drawing from Atwood’s 2020 poetry collection Dearly, this evocative project weaves together classical and jazz trio idioms to create a rich musical language that is as haunting as it is beautiful. Davis’s settings transform seven of Atwood’s poems — Zombie, Blizzard, Health Class, Princess Clothing, Shadow, Digging up the Scythians, and Dearly — into art songs that balance elegance with raw emotional power. Atwood’s own recorded recitations provide an arresting narrative thread, while Brueggergosman-Lee’s luminous voice breathes life into Davis’s music with stunning emotional range. The result is a spellbinding meditation on grief, gender, humour, and the quiet resilience required to survive in a changing world. Part concert, part poetic encounter, Zombie Blizzard invites audiences into an intimate soundscape where words and music intertwine to reveal the fragility — and the strength — of the human spirit. This one-night-only event is an extraordinary opportunity to witness three Canadian luminaries in artistic dialogue, and a highlight of the Luminary Series you won’t want to miss.
